My demo reel took a semester to complete. As I create more animated shorts I will reconfigure the demo reel, putting my best work forward. The work shown in this demo reel features Jail Break, Seasons and a Walk Cycle using the Andy Rig. Creating a demo reel is a long process that requires an artist to look at their own work critically. You want the reel to catch the attention of whoever is watching. Your work should speak for itself and show the 12 principles of animation.
Below is my Seasons project fully rendered, which showcases particle effects and ncloth. Seasons was created in Maya 2016 and Adobe After Effects. The rain and snow were particle effects created in Maya. The pollen was created in After Effects.
At the end of last semester I had worked on a project I titled Seasons. I encountered some technical difficulties before the project was due to present. As a result my Ncloth for the Fall season didn’t have falling leaves. One of the things I wanted to fix this semester for my demo reel was a tree with falling leaves for the Fall scene. Below is a clip of the new Ncloth I created.
This semester I will be focusing on the creation of a demo reel. First I need to gather all of my assets for the project. These assets consist of Seasons, Jail Break, Mondrian and the creation of a Walk Cycle. By the end of the semester I will have completed my demo reel, which will demonstrate my skills in Maya.
Below is a completed version of my project for this semester. This project consists of a weather cycle displaying all of the seasons. I used Maya 2016 to create the particle effects and environment. The pollen particles were created in Adobe After Effects. Some technical issues occurred at the last minute and will be fixed next semester. I will also redo the render to have either a resolution of 1080p or 720p.
Recently I was trying to figure out a way to create the Fall scene for Weather Cycle project. Since this scene requires showcasing wind, I had the idea to create leaves falling from a tree. While searching for ideas to create this with particle effects I realized it wouldn’t be practical to use this method. Many animators online have been using nCloth to create leaves falling from trees. I found a youtube video to help understand how to create nCloth for falling leaves. The link to the video will be listed below. I will warn you that the music in the video is a bit distracting, but the overall video is helpful to follow.
Below is a playblast of the nCloth I created for my Weather Cycle project.
The following link has some images that helped me to develop an ideas for the environment in my project. I also included images of some of the seasons to help me better understand how weather appears in reality. I will frequently looked back to these images while creating the particle effects to help create a sense of realism in the project.
